Lifting A Print Off Paper
using a Decoupage Finish
or Mod Podge

How do you lift a print off paper and can this be done with any kind of print or just certain papers

This can be done with most types of paper but in a lot of cases (wrapping paper, computer prints etc) it may not be necessary unless the paper is very thick (eg a card or similar). To remove the paper (lift a print off the paper) you need to coat the front on the print with something like a decoupage finish or Mod Podge using about 4 - 5 layers. Brush a coat on in one direction, allow to dry and then brush on another coat in the opposite direction. Repeat this procedure allowing to dry thoroughly between each layer.

Once you have prepared the paper and allowed it to dry (I usually leave at least overnight) soak in a small dish of water. The print will go milky but this will clear when it's dry.

Turn the print face down onto a flat surface and gently rub the paper off the back of the print. Start on the outside edge and sometimes, if you get lucky, the paper will roll off in one piece as you go. Be careful you don't rub through the finish you applied.

Once all the paper is removed you will be left with just the ink on the finish. To apply to the egg, trim away the excess around the edge of the print and brush a thin coat of thin PVA glue like Aquadhere or Sobo onto the egg and then place your print. Be careful you don't stretch it or it may tear. Seal with a couple of coats of Mod Podge or your favourite sealer.
