by Maureen Williams

Create unique personalised notelets or cards for those special kids (or adults) in your life.
A quick, cheap gift  for any occasion.

You will need:
Paint Shop Pro - download a free trial version here.
This tutorial was written in PSP 7 but will also work in Version 8

Unzip into where you put your plugins - it will show up as
Jeux de lignes/Entrelacement in PSP

  Remember to save frequently

Step One
Open a new  transparent image using one of the following sizes:
297 x 396 (1/4 of a US page)
297 x 418 (1/4 of an A4 page)
This will allow you to print 4 to a page.
OR
a size of your choice.

Step Two
Flood fill with your chosen background colour

Hint: Use white as your background and print onto coloured paper to save on ink.

Step Three
Go to Effects, Plugins, Jeux de lignes

notelet01
Notes
Use the colour picker in PSP to get the desired Red/Green/Blue settings

 Line spacing of 20 equals approx 1/4" or 7 mm between the lines.
Line spacing of 15 equals approx 3/8" or  5.5 mm between the lines.

Opacity - 0 = no lines, 255 is darkest.

Step Four
Add a new raster layer.
Select your favourite tube and position as desired but don't put it too close to the edges

To remove the top lines or the lines around the tube etc,
 duplicate the initial flood-fill layer and then do your lines on the 2nd layer.
 Use the eraser to remove the lines on the line layer - the underneath layer will cover the gaps.

Step Five
Add a new raster layer.
Select the Text Tool and add text of your choice.

Step Six
Add extra layers if required.
When finished Merge Visible
Save your file.

Hints and Tips

When you have finished your chosen notelets, use the multiple print function in PSP.
The preview will show the non-print border.
 Drag & drop your images onto the page and then print.

Note: you can create a variety of notelets and print 4 different designs on one page.

To create a centre vertical line set the line spacing to 149
 and the Verti/Horiz to zero

Make your own graph paper by creating horizontal lines and then
going back into the filter and selecting the vertical setting of zero.

Quarter Fold Cards
Making your own quarter-fold card notelets is very easy using a single sheet of printer paper.

Horizontal Orientation

Step One
Open a new transparent image 29.5 cm x 21 cm for A4 size paper (1161 x 827 pixels)
or 11" x 8.5" for US Letter size paper (1100 x 850 pixels)

Flood fill the layer with your choice of colour or use white and print onto coloured paper.

Step Two
Click on the Selection Tool and choose the Custom Selection icon.

Use these settings for A4 paper:
Top = 0
Left = 0
Right = 570
Bottom = 826

For US letter paper use these settings:
Top = 0
Left = 0
Right = 540
Bottom = 850

Apply the Entrelacement filter to this selection only using a line spacing of 30.

Step Three
Add  new raster layer and create another custom selection with the following settings:

Use these settings for A4 paper:
Top = 410
Left = 585
Right = 1161
Bottom = 826

For US letter paper use these settings:
Top =430
Left = 555
Right = 1100
Bottom = 850

If using a background image, copy and paste into this selection.
Alternatively, add your favourite tube to this area.

Step Four
Add a watermark or other back-page image to the remaining area.
This will need to be flipped upside down and positioned either in the middle
or towards the top of the card so when it is printed and folded it will be the right way up.

Note: If you are using text in your back-page area it will also need to be mirrored
so the writing is around the correct way.

Back-page text could include
Especially for You
With Love From.......
Created by........
From Mum's Computer
etc.

Step Five
Select the Multiple Print option in PSP
 It will be necessary to rotate the image in here to fit the template.

Print out on your printer using a high setting for a clear print.

Fold the printed sheet of paper in half and then in half again with the lines on the inside.

Envelopes
A small version of your graphic could also be printed onto suitable envelopes to complete the set.

Vertical Orientation

Follow the same procedure for Steps One & Two

Settings for Step Three

Use these settings for A4 paper:
Top = 0
Left = 585
Right = 1161
Bottom = 400

For US letter paper use these settings:
Top =0
Left = 555
Right = 1100
Bottom = 420

The graphic for the front of the card will be placed in this area but will need to be rotated

Image Background Variation

Open your new image as per the size in the tute and CTRL + A to select the image

Open the graphic you wish to use and CTRL + C to copy.
Click back on the blank image and then Edit > Paste into Selection.

Note: When choosing a graphic for the all over graphic image select one with a vertical orientation otherwise it will get chopped off.

If you specifically wanted to use a horizontal orientation graphic you would need to make sure it was higher than the blank image and paste it as a new selection. You could then use the Mover tool to position the portion of the image you wanted to use in the blank graphic.

Duplicate the image layer.
 Select All (CTRL +A) . Modify > Contract > 20 pixels (or whatever width border you want)
 Invert and delete the outer edge. Do not deselect yet.

Invert again.
 (Turn off the original image layer to make sure you only have the inner portion
 of the duplicated layer selected)

Add a new layer and flood fill the selection with white (or other colour as desired)
Reduce the opacity of this layer as desired - I've used 60% on this one.
If the background image is fairly intense you may need to increase the opacity to maybe 70

Now do the Entrelacement filter on this white layer. Add any other embellishments as desired.
